Fear of quantum computers has reached the heart of the crypto world — and the XRP Ledger responded first. Ripple and the cryptography firm Project Eleven are developing a quantum-resistant custody wallet prototype, already in active testing on the XRPL validators. The goal is to protect, starting now, the cryptography that today signs transactions and safeguards digital assets.
What is being tested
The work includes hybrid post-quantum signatures, performance tests on Devnet and a custody architecture designed to withstand quantum computers. The algorithms follow the standards recommended by NIST, the international reference in cryptography. This is Phase 2 of a roadmap published by RippleX, whose goal — still within the first half of 2026 — is to measure the impact of post-quantum cryptography on the network's performance, storage and bandwidth.
The trigger was recent research from Google Quantum AI, which showed that the cryptography used by most crypto networks could, in the future, be broken by sufficiently advanced quantum computers — including the algorithms that protect wallets and sign transactions.
Why the XRP Ledger starts ahead
According to Ripple, the XRPL has native capabilities that ease migration: account-level key rotation (replacing vulnerable keys without changing the account) and seed-based key generation (deriving new cryptographic material deterministically). The company says these do not exist natively in networks like Ethereum.
There is also a contingency plan called Q-Day: if classical cryptography is compromised before migration is complete, the XRPL would block classical signatures and let users move funds via zero-knowledge proofs. The goal is a full transition to post-quantum signatures, as a formal protocol amendment, by 2028. According to figures cited in the report, only 0.03% of circulating XRP would be exposed to quantum attacks — versus around 35% of Bitcoin.
The risk is not immediate, but it already creates real urgency: in the "harvest now, decrypt later" scenario, attackers store encrypted data today to decrypt it tomorrow, once capable quantum computers exist.
Why this matters for TGG Wallet
TGG Wallet does not take part in this development, but it builds on the XRPL. The fact that the network is already among the most prepared for the quantum era reinforces the security and longevity of the infrastructure behind the $TGG token. Tokenizing a real asset — such as agro-industrial hemp — requires a foundation that withstands time and the next technological threats. Choosing a network that anticipates those risks is part of building responsibly.
